Been a long time....

I haven't updated for over a year. A lot has happened during that time. My mother passed away and one of the children that was part of our travel group also passed. While one death sometimes can be the conclusion of a great life lived, the other leaves many questions and we search for answers. But, all I know is that for however long Emme was here, she touched so many lives. Sometimes, the answers to the question why is not for us, but for others watching us as we walk through this foreign land. May God receive all glory that although we don't understand, we accept; and know that He is in control and that all things are working to the good of us who know God and are called according to His purpose! We can await heaven and the GRAND reunion that we cannot imagine with our limited human minds and emotions. But what a HAPPY day that will be!

When you look at the pictures of Jayden, you will be amazed at how he has grown. I praise God every morning for this child and we have been so blessed with his addition to our family.

6 month reunion of China group

This is us and the three other couples that traveled with us to China. We got together last Saturday at Herdmont (I think that's right) Park for a picnic. It was great getting together and catching up. All the children are doing great and have adjusted well into their forever families.

As you can see by these photo's Jayden loved his first trip to the beach. Look at that belly! Since recovering from his last surgery he has really started to gain weight. He is now babbling up a storm with his new palate. Hopefully he will soon start really talking. He says about 40 - 50 single words now. Brian and I are really enjoying being his parents and thanking God every day for this huge blessing.

This is Jayden's 1st trip to McDonald's.
As you can see Jayden loves the water. Payton learned to swim underwater and scuba dive this year. Jayden is almost swimming above water. By next year I believe he will be swimming.

Jayden loves the sand pile! He is discovering new and exciting things all around him. Some he likes and some he doesn't care for...like walking on the ground outside. It's very interesting watching Jayden discover the world. I am reminded of how much we take for granted everyday and I pray that this experience of watching him learn will teach me to be more thankful of all that the Lord provides for us. We are so blessed to have been born in America.

I think I posted that the paperwork told us that Jayden's favorite toy was a ball. Brian and I went all over the island and finally found him a ball. When we got back to the hotel it was apparent that Jayden had never saw a ball before much less knew what to do with it. Children are so remarkable, in just a couple of week look at him playing with a ball. Thanks to uncle Payton for all of his help!

Payton spent the night with us the first Tuesday after we arrived home. Are these pictures not adorable? Payton was so sweet with Jayden. Even though Jayden is actually Payton's uncle...Payton wants to be called "Uncle Payton". I know that God will bind these two hearts together for life and that they will grow up united with love for each other.

When we arrived home there were balloons and this banner signed by friends and family. Special thanks to Rod, Joy, and especially ALEXA for hanging this welcome up. I am truly blessed to have such special people in my life. I cried when we pulled up-- to think that even though you couldn't meet us at the airport because of our delays from New Jersey-- you went out of your way at the last minute to show us love. Then when we opened our refrigerator Robbin Davison had made us fresh pasta casserole and Bobbie and Edward McDonald had stocked us up on the basic "stuff". If that wasn't enough Mark Davison had finished our back deck for us while we were gone as a present. How can we possibly repay all this kindness? I am just praising God for each and every person that He has placed in our lives at this moment in time. God is so good to us and He just keeps blessing us each day!

Well, we made it back to Birmingham Thursday morning a little after midnight. After a little sleep we went to Payton's ball practice. Jayden met a lot of his new family there. I will be uploading the pictures of the Pearl River Cruise this week. I apologize for the delay but the jet lag really hit me after we arrived home. and we have had a lot of company. Jayden and I are struggling to adjust to the time change. We did manage to attend church yesterday...I was in a fog. Jayden made his first trip to the nursing home to visit my mother today. He loved on everyone there. Praise God that he entrusted us with such a loving and sweet boy. I will post more later with pictures. Terri

Goodbye from China

Well this will be the last post from China. Our internet subscription will run out at 6pm tomorrow night. We will leave for Hong Kong Tuesday after we receive Jayden's visa. We will spend one evening and one night in Hong Kong before returning to the US on Wednesday. We are SO HOMESICK. Jayden has not felt well today. I think he is trying to get a cold. UCK! This is a picture of our whole group (Lifeline and small world). On the red couch are all the children that were adopted by our group. As you can see Jayden was having a bad day. The other little boy having a bad day is Caleb Mann from Alex City. The next blog entry till be after we return home. Thank you all for your prayers for us and especially for Jayden. We appreciate all of your support. This has been a long and hard process, and some of you know the heartbreak that we have had to endure during this process. God has been faithful to us and has brought us through. The moment Jayden climbed into my arms made every hurt ease. I have never been more certain that this is the path that God had intended for Brian and me from before time began. God knew that our little boy would be born a world away and that He would reunite us in His timing. We give all the praise and glory to God for placing this child into our family. He is such a joy and a blessing.

We went to a very large shopping mall today. This place was two or three times larger than the Galleria in Hoover. We also went to the jade and pearl market today. The prices were unbelievable. I bought a very nice (according to our guide 1st quality) set of pearl's for Jayden's future wife. I also bought a jade bracelet to commemorate our trip to China and Jayden's adoption. This will probably also pass to Jayden since it is part of his heritage. I thought I would also share some jade sculptures we have seen.

This was Jayden's exit medical exam. The first picture is the ENT (Here in China the abbreviation stands for eyes, nose, and teeth) Kinda funny huh? The second picture is where they weighed and measured him. He weighed in at a whopping 20lbs. He's gained 2 pounds since we received him. He is 29 1/2 inches long. The third picture is his actual medical exam.

This was Jayden's favorite nanny. He was really glad to see her and when she gave him back to me he cried. This was the first time he has really cried. It was very heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. I am glad that Brian and I had the opportunity to visit and to thank especially this lady for loving and taking care of Jayden. We left via the playground and I think Jayden sighed with relief when we pulled away.

Tomorrow we pick up Jayden's passport, apply for his visa and he will have his exit medical check up. Tomorrow evening we will have a diner cruise on the Pearl River. I hope to get some good pictures.

These pictures are a little heartbreaking. The facility that Jayden was in was very clean and the staff and nannies were very loving...however, there were so many children. They do the best that they can but the faces of the children break your heart. I wanted to take all of them home with me.

Went touring today. Started off by going to the Chen Family Museum. This was built in 1840 by the Chen Family as a temple. When the communist government came into power they took over the museum and all the properties owned by the family. Now it is run by the government as a tourist attraction. After we left there we went to a place that makes ceramics and has a large selection of class A and B jade. Class A is the best quality you can get as it is jade in the purest form. Class B is colored by using chemicals. After that we went to a traditional chinese restaurant where the food did not look all that enticing. Everyone tried a little of it but there was a lot of food left. Nothing like "Sweet Home Alabama" food. Tomorrow Terri and I will be going to the orphanage where Jayden has lived all his life. This will probably be an eye opening experience so pray for us. Until tomorrow

Well, today in Guangzhou was rainy and a little cool. We stayed in the hotel this morning and just took some indoor pictures. The White Swan Hotel on Shamian Island is a four or five star international hotel. I don't really know what all that means, however, it is truly beautiful. The hotel is surrounded by the famous Pearl river. There are two swimming pool. exercise rooms (with treadmills, stair stepper, and free weights), golf driving course, gift shops, clothing shops, sauna's, massages, beauty shops, barber shops, banks, just about anything you could want.

This afternoon we had our appointment at the police station to file for Jayden's passport. Everything went like clock work. If anyone is interested in International Adoption, Lifeline children's Services are the ones to call. They have this whole process down to an art.

In the morning we are going site seeing, so we should have some great pictures.

I apologize if I have told you this before, I am posting to this site blind. I cannot see what I am posting. For some reason, I can post, but I cannot view Jayden's blog. ? But anyway, we finally, found him a couple of pairs of pants and a few shirts to wear. He is so tiny. Right now he is wearing a 9 month. He is adjusting well, although he has a hard time eating solid food. His palet is a 3rd degree cleft, and his cleft went all the way through his left nostril. He will need at least 3 surgeries to correct.

I will try to post more tomorrow. Please pray for the Forbes family and their daughter Emme Grace.

He's Ours

As of about 11 am we officially adopted Jayden. We sign and sealed all the documents. The only paper work left is to get him a passport and visa. We'll do that Monday. We went to Wal-Mart today it it was three stories underground. No air conditioner...very hot, and very humid. We shopped for 45 minutes, which was 40 too many for me. As you can see from the outside of Wal-Mart is was raining today. More later.

Gotcha Day

Sorry I didn't get any thing posted about our gotcha day. But we had a very busy day. We received Jayden at about 3:30pm and he is a hoot. Then we had paper work, paper work and Jayden wanted to play, play, play. He only had one bad moment, and that was after it got dark...I think all the lights scared him. But he has been laughing and playing ever since. More later.

Here are a few pictures that we took this morning. Beautiful brides were everywhere today. There is a great emphasis on exercise here. In the parks there were people everywhere. Kicking a birdie, playing tennis, various other ball and racket games, board games, dancing, stretching (kung fu style), sword...yes sword...practice, wrestling, and other activities that were beautiful but I'm not sure exactly what they were. This is a very social culture, and they are very friendly.

This was a church service (please note that the church is full) in Guangzhou's Christ Church. At the start of the service the pastor was required to read a disclaimer about this was one of many theories. However, this was a Biblical, Jesus is the only way of salvation sermon. So, no matter the disclaimer, the gospel is being preached. Just outside the courtyard of this church was a police checkpoint fully armed.

As you can see I did get the names that Payton painted over the weekend hung on the walls in their bedrooms. Jayden's room is ready and waiting for him to occupy. This is our last day before we start our travel to be united with our precious son and we have butterflies in our stomach. Please lift our family, the Mann's, the Jones', and the Forbes up to the throne of our Lord for safety in travel, in the bonding process, and pray also for these children that God has so graciously entrusted to us. This is our grandson Payton. He spent the weekend with us to help us finish Jayden's room. Of course, his room and Jayden's are identical. Both army rooms. As you can see in the pictures, Payton had a great time and was a trememdous help. He loved the craft table that Joni Craft had given Jayden. Hopefully, we will get their names on their walls before we leave Friday.

This is our group that we will be traveling to China with. We met at Lloyd's Friday night and had a wonderful time of getting to know each other. The Mann's are the only family that will travel to another province for the first part of their journey. They will join the rest of us in Guangzhou for the last week of their trip and will fly home with all of us. The Jones' and the Forbes are from the Birmingham area. The Mann's are from Alexander City. God is at work in central Alabama with regards to these special needs children. We will arrive back in Alabama with two girls and two boys. Jayden is the youngest of the group.

THIS WEEKEND

Can you believe that this will be our last weekend as empty nesters? We will be working on finishing touches on Jayden's room and packing. One minute I think we have everything ready and the next I am completely overwhelmed. I am just thankful that God is reassuring me that this is His will for our lives at this time. (Even if I sometimes feel unworthy, too old, and think Brian must have only been going through mid-life crises) Thank you, Lord for giving me peace, and laughter---for those of you that don't know---God has a wonderful sense of humor. I will have photographs to post on Monday of his room and hopefully of our diner with the other three couples that will be traveling with us. We are all meeting this Friday evening at Lloyd's for food and fellowship. This is a miracle that four special needs children will be adopted in our area in just a few days from now. My prayer is that each of us will raise up godly children to be warriors for the kingdom!

CHINA BOUND

Yesterday we had our document meeting with Karla. Now we officially have all our paperwork in order, and we have our CLEAR ENVELOPES that will travel with us! We will be leaving March 21 and returning April 2, 2008. We will be receiving Jayden on Easter Sunday (here) WOW, what a glorious Easter present. Of course it doesn't compare to our greatest Easter gift of Christ rising from the grave to secure our salvation....but it's a second place for the best Easter present we have ever received. We are giving God the glory for this journey, only He could have carried us through the heartache, and growing pains this path has taken us on. "We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the life that is waiting for us." --Joseph Campbell.

Jayden continues to receive presents, and he's not even here yet. I have a feeling Brian and I need to clear out more space. Sheryl Blakley presented me with a Hallmark baby book---for an adopted child---Sunday at church. She and her daughter saw it while shopping in Georgia recently. I know that this will be a treasure that Jayden will be thankful for. Joni Craft brought the activity table for Jayden's room (which we haven't finished yet). I know that Jayden and I will create wonderful pictures and crafts on this beautiful table. Please pray for our TA, we really need to receive it soon, due to the airfare price increases for April. PRAY! We are thankful for all of your prayers.

LOA MAILED BACK TO CHINA

Our LOA is on it's way to China. Today Jayden received his third gift. His first gift was from his big brother Derek and his girlfriend Timeka---a brookstone stuffed bear with an embroidered tee shirt bearing his name. I have never felt a teddy bear so soft. Jayden's second gift came from Doug and Melody Kemp, a baby GUND prince cuddle toy. I'm sure that Jayden will love to hold this because it is so soft and cuddlie. Today Rodney and Joy our "spiritual kids" gave Jayden his first Bible. I will enjoy reading this to him in the coming months as I hold him close and begin to hide God's word in his heart.

At the travel meeting on December 28th, Karla told us that Lifeline had received new pictures of Jayden. We were really surprised because we had not asked for an update yet. Because of the holidays we didn't get the pictures e-mailed to us until January 4th---talk about a long week :). we are thankful to our Lord for this extra blessing. It reminds us that we serve an awesome God who supplies us with just what we need at just the right time! Isn't he beautiful!

First Travel Meeting

The wait is the pits! We have not heard anything from China since November 11th. Karla says that this is good news "no news is good news". So, we are waiting on the Lord to move the process along. We will attend our first travel meeting tomorrow December 28, 2007. I know that this will give us comfort and encouragement; in that we will at least be doing something toward bringing Jayden home.
